Claudia has suggested you keep cutting your chrysanthemums back until around July. The way you can remember this is "Hand-high by the fourth of July". They should be about the size of an extended hand by July. Then do not cut them back anymore and in the fall they will not be falling over.
Meredith reminds us that the time to prune your roses is when the forsythia bloom which in our area is typically in March.
